The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) is the United Kingdom's professional body and learned society for physicists and engineers within the field of medicine. The Institute is governed by an elected council reporting to which is a substructure of committees, groups and panels of members, which undertake the professional work of the Institute.
The Institute is licensed by the Engineering Council to register Chartered Engineers and by the Science Council to register Chartered Scientists.

The Institute issues an IPEM Diploma on successful completion of Grade A training (the initial training grade, which for medical physicists and clinical engineers it involves two years in-service training, incorporating an accredited MSc).
There are 7 grades of membership:
On 1 March 2006 an agreement was signed by the IPEM and the Institute of Physics to allow a 25% discount on membership subscriptions payable to each organisation for those who are or become individual members of both organisations.
